Take Command of Your Career with a Clinical Career at the VA! (5117 hits)

Every role matters in our mission to serve and support Veterans at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Hospitals and VA facilities from Florida to New Jersey, from San Antonio to Louisville — and even to Hawaii, Alaska, and U.S. territories — are looking for qualified clinicians like you to join our team.

Filling these critically needed clinical positions is a priority across VA — and an opportunity for you!

Physician

When we ask physicians why they work at VA, their answers run the gamut — flexibility, a supportive atmosphere, the chance to research and teach, and more time to spend with patients. No matter your specialty, physicians are in high demand at VA.

Nurse

Whether at the bedside of a Veteran or working in an outpatient clinic, our nurses deliver quality care and lead the way in innovating how we provide nursing care. You can have the opportunity to develop patient safety initiatives, conduct research to improve care delivery, and help guide the next generation of nurses.

Physician Assistant

When you picture the role of a physician assistant, you probably imagine practicing in a traditional clinical setting. However, the opportunity to serve Veterans can take many forms. Whether you want to work in an inpatient hospital or home-based primary care, or specialize in a field like geriatrics or mental health, we offer access to rewarding opportunities across the continuum of care.

Psychologist

We empower Veterans to take charge of their well-being and pursue fuller lives, and VA psychologists are an integral part of that effort. After transitioning from military service, many Veterans face challenges adjusting to civilian life, and psychologists play a key role in working with them to reclaim their lives.

Social Worker

At VA, social workers may help a Veteran or caregiver navigate resources and benefits, or you may be engaged in crisis intervention and counseling. Your compassion, adaptability, and genuine desire to help others make you invaluable when it comes to helping Veterans navigate their own unique challenges.

A nationwide network

Here, you’ll have the opportunity to work in the largest, most technologically advanced integrated health care system in the United States. This allows us to do things better, including providing a network of resources unmatched in any other arena of health care.

“We have national working groups that offer almost limitless peer support,” said James Marfield, associate director of VA’s National Recruitment Service. “You’ve got a limitless number of physicians and other clinicians out there you can lean on for advice or input. You can’t get that kind of support anywhere else.”

With a single license, you can work everywhere within VA. If the time comes for you to find a new horizon, apply for an open position at VA facilities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa or the Philippines, and you won’t typically lose any benefits, accumulated paid leave, or pay by transferring.

Benefits beyond compare

At VA, you and your dedicated colleagues are rewarded with a balanced, flexible work environment and benefits focused on your unique needs.
  • Student loan assistance. We understand the burden of student debt and offer multiple programs that can support repayment or even provide debt forgiveness.
  • Flexible schedules. Our employees receive 13 to 26 paid vacation/personal days, as well as 13 sick days annually with no limit on accumulation, and we celebrate 11 paid federal holidays each year.
  • Robust insurance. You can choose from a variety of health plans that fit your needs and cover all preexisting conditions. Additionally, we pay up to 75% of health premiums, a benefit that can continue into retirement.

Work at VA

We wouldn’t be able to provide high quality care for Veterans without professionals like you, who bring unmatched expertise and dedication to your calling.
